The game's beginning. Depending on the variant being played, each player is initially dealt a certain number of rummylistcards, typically seven or ten. One card is dealt face-up to begin the discard pile, and the other cards form a draw pile. Players alternately draw cards from the discard or draw piles, then discard one card from their hand.
